Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition program that helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings, and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful not only in school but in life.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
Categories and Divisions
Students are divided by their grade: Primary (Pre-K - Grade 2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), Special Artist (All grades welcome)* and create original works of art in response to a theme.
The theme for the 2023-2024 program year is “I Am Hopeful Because…” All students are invited to submit their original completed works (see entry form) of art in one or all of the available arts categories:

![]() ![]() Film Production - guidelines {English} {Español} original works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/film.
![]() Literature - guidelines {English} {Español} works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories and lyrics.
![]() Music Composition - guidelines {English} {Español} original musical composition, with or without words.
![]() Photography - guidelines {English} {Español} color or black and white, included techniques: photogram, negative sandwich, and multiple exposure.
![]() Visual Arts - guidelines {English} {Español} drawing, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor & t-shirt paints, computer generated art, two-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling.

Collins Pre-K - 8 and State Guidelines
Artworks are submitted first to Collins Pre-K-8 PTSA Reflections Committee by the deadline OCTOBER 17th, where they will be recognized, celebrated and judged based on grade-level and category divisions by professionals in the different categories. All judging is done anonymously. Judges will determine the top entries per division and category. These entries are then sent on to the Hillsborough County Councils Reflections Committee for judging on the County Reflections Committee level. Winners of the Hillsborough County Council Reflections judging move on to the Florida PTA Reflections judging Committee. The final artworks submitted to Florida PTA by county councils are then considered for Awards of Excellence or Awards of Merit (outlined below). Award of Excellence entries are then forwarded to National PTA to represent Florida at the National level. Each level of judging is celebrated in different ways.

Prizes include a $50 Award check, Award of Excellence ribbon, medal, and certificate. Artwork will be showcased at the Florida PTA Leadership Convention Reflections Gallery.
